The Seventh Cabal
15 Dec, 2006
Just because you’re evil, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun.
Super Group Spotlight is a feature dedicated to taking a closer look at the many and varied Super Groups created by players of both City of Heroes and City of Villains.
If you’re the founder or current leader of a Super Group in either City of Heroes or City of Villains, and would like your SG to be considered for Super Group Spotlight, you can find all the details in Introducing: Supergroup Spotlight! on the official message boards.
Now, though, read on to learn all about our latest ‘spotlighted’ villainous Super Group, The Seventh Cabal…
The Seventh Cabal
Darkness is our home - Evil is our business
Villainous Super Group on Defiant
Founders: Rhinoxx, Crock
Leaders: Rhinoxx, Dark Cobalt, Crock, Horus Priest
Background: The Seventh Cabal was founded in February 2006. Rhinoxx had tried membership in several SGs and found none of them to his liking - it seemed to be too much about Prestige farming and too little about having fun. This led to the founding of the Seventh Cabal, named on the basis that this was the 7th SG that Rhinoxx was about to get involved with.
Origins: The Seventh Cabal was founded some 5 years ago - largely by chance. Three super-powered villains had ended up in the same section of The Zig and had decided to stick together to make the best out of their situation. The mutants ‘Crock’ and ‘Rhinoxx’ both came from street-crime backgrounds with various gangs, whereas the meta-human calling himself ‘Stomparr’ was a former Crey Power Tank. All three were powerful fighters and people to watch your step around.
When the alarms went off following a series of explosions that rocked the foundations of The Zig, the three comrades soon found themselves in a full scale prison break, being herded through a prison yard filled with inmates fighting to get a spot on one of the Arachnos Flyers while under attack by both Longbow operatives as well as prison personnel. It was natural-selection at its most brutal - Arachnos wanting to see who would survive the initial rush for freedom!
All three survived and, arriving at Mercy Island, they soon found out that ‘mercy’ was in short supply and their trial was only just beginning - Lord Recluse had adopted a Darwinian approach to recruiting meta-humans and dumping them into the meat grinder that is the Rogue Isles. Only the strongest, most cunning and ruthless would survive to be offered a place amongst the elite of Arachnos.
The three allies slogged their way across the merciless barren wasteland of Mercy Island and found that things were no better when they were allowed into the more civilized area of Port Oakes.
But at least they could hook into their network of contacts again, sell salvage found on countless missions undertaken from shady brokers and contacts and eventually things started to look better. Stomparr even managed to hack a Crey mainframe during a raid on a Crey station, and discovered a small underground base which could easily be overrun - the location and existence of which was subsequently burned from the Crey Network.
A new home was found - a place to stage operations, to gather salvage, to rest and feel relatively secure. They sent out a message to the underground that a new organization was rising from the darkness, willing to take in those who wanted power, wanted to survive, wanted to prosper.
Eventually the three Brutes were joined by the nuclear ‘Dark Cobalt’, whose glowing touch corrupted and destroyed all she focused her will on, the mysterious assassin ‘Emergency’, who cloaked himself in shadows, and the Techno-Paragod known as ‘Horus Priest’ and his band of shadow warriors. The Seventh Cabal was formally founded and the leadership decided upon - and with the promise of violence, loot and a good time, many more villainous meta-humans flocked to its banner. The dangers of the lawless islands meant that some died in the violent melting pot that is the Rogue Isles, some had to retire due disabling injuries - but new villains were always ready to take their place and make their own grab for destiny.
Eventually even the mighty may fall, and Stomparr and Emergency were lost to one the many dangers of the Rogue Isles - they simply vanished without a trace and never returned from a relatively non-dangerous mission.
Now Rhinoxx, Dark Cobalt, Horus Priest and Crock are guiding their band of mutants, masterminds, deranged scientists, devious mercenaries, furious brutes, energy-blasting crazies and other villains towards a new and glorious future.
Goals: We actually have this written into our SG charter:
Seventh Cabal has been formed to build a group of people who want to have fun playing City of Villains - meaning teaming, doing missions, helping each other out, providing advice for members on their characters and naturally building a nice base so we can eventually partake in raiding and similar in-game fun. Our main focus is PvE and we have chosen to style our base in a Science mode.
The main objective of the SG is to have fun with the game - too much seriousness has a tendency to ruin the fun. We like to see ourselves as a friendly home for the casual player.
Activities: The purpose of the SG is first of all to provide a focal point for our members - a place where they can hang out, talk to likeminded individuals and get advice and feedback when needed.
We organize a weekly event called Cabal Game Time where we try to drum the members together for all-SG gaming. This could be badge hunting, helping someone take down a difficult mission, doing StrikeForce missions, entering the PvP areas and so forth - just having fun together as an SG.
Some of our older members are dedicated badge hunters and have a solid knowledge of what is need for accolades and rewards later in the game, so we help each other out getting both the ‘important’ badges as well as just having fun chasing down Skulls, Lost and all the other activities involved in badge hunting.
Our ranks are Cabal Tyrant, Princeps, Praetorian, Legionnaire and Minion. Minion is the rank all newcomers get and after a 7-14 days Trial Period, people get upgraded to Legionnaire and get full access to the base and other regular SG features.
The SG is headed by the veteran members, but promotion beyond Legionnaire is not associated with either Prestige earning or game time - rather with the time and effort you are willing to put into the SG, helping making it a stronger and better group.
Finest Moments: Looking back through our saga, two moments come to mind:
Right after the Circle of Thorns Giant Monster ‘Caleb’ was introduced, a number of our members had reached the appropriate level and dragged a bunch of lower-levels who wanted to come along in Lackey-mode. Information on how to force his appearance wasn’t as clear at that point, so we proceeded to clear the beaches of Thorn Isle of Demons several times round, and when dusk came a number of us took to the skies, located Caleb and taunted him into attacking the team on the ground. A vicious fight involving Fear, Debuffing and Pummelling ensued, and we managed to destroy his manifestation - that just felt like a real victory as it involved some serious effort.
The second moment was the first time an SG team entered Warburg intent on firing the missile. The zone was overrun by Villains and Heroes - a number of which attempted to abduct the scientists we were escorting, so it was a serious challenge to get the scientists to their safe spots as well as surviving. But finally we had the launch code and rained radioactive fire down upon a group of Malta Titans. Glorious!
Base: The base of the Seventh Cabal was originally a Crey listening station, the location of which was discovered when Stomparr hacked a Crey mainframe. A raid against the station was planned and the three Brutes wiped out all personnel and the existence of the base was erased from the Crey systems.
The small listening post has since been heavily upgraded to offer support functionality for the Cabal members in terms of teleporter access to all parts of the Rogue Isles, a fully-stocked MediBay, and workshops for the deranged scientists to build new contraptions as well as store Enhancements and Salvage. All this is powered by a massive generator and overseen by the Cabal XV3 mainframe, an AI-enhanced supercomputer which is the creation of the robotics expert Doctor Mandible.
Lately the base has been upgraded with new teleportation arrays allowing for raiding of enemy groups as well as a strong room to store looted Items of Power.
Future Plans: To continue our proud tradition of being a friendly home to easy-going villains who wants to enjoy themselves in the Rogue Isles. Continue helping out new players and SG members and assisting them in getting the best possible experience from the game. Continue building our web presence as a good online resource for all our members.
Recruitment: The Seventh Cabal is always open to new members of our wretched hive of scum and villainy. Interested parties can read more about us at http://www.seventh-cabal.dk, where the SG Charter with our rules and regulations can also be seen.
Chief Recruitment Officers are: Rhinoxx (@Rhinoxx), Dark Cobalt (@Dark Cobalt), Horus Priest (@fruity thief) and Crock (@Lord Arcane).
