Welcome to Halloween!

18 Oct, 2006

For the next two weeks, knocking on a door in the Rogue Isles may have surprising results…

It’s that time of year again, and the spooks and spectres have made their way out of Croatoa and into Paragon City - and, for the first time, the Rogue Isles! During this time both Heroes and Villains are able to ‘Trick or Treat’ at most doors in most zones. Trick or Treating involves simply clicking the door and receiving a ‘Trick’ (a nasty spawn of Halloween themed critters), or a ‘Treat’. Treats can be medium or large inspirations, a special temporary power, or a piece of special Halloween Salvage!

Read on for some important details about the Halloween Event…

There are a few important things to bear in mind when Trick and Treating this Halloween:

  • A character can only Trick and Treat on doors in zones appropriate to their level - a Level 2 character, for example, should Trick and Treat in zones like Atlas Park and Galaxy City, while higher levels should look for doors in higher level zones. As a rough rule of thumb, if the enemies on the streets are around your level, you should be able to Trick and Treat in the zone. If they’re too high, go to a lower level zone, and vice versa.
  • Each door can only be clicked on once every 30 seconds. This ‘Door Timer’ is to encourage players to move about the zones in their Trick or Treating escapades.
  • Each player can only click on a door once every 60 seconds. If you group up, you can cycle who clicks the doors, so your wait time between Trick or Treating is minimised.
  • There are four special pieces of Halloween Salvage: Hamidon Costume, Statesman Mask, Lord Recluse Mask, and Back Alley Brawler Gloves. If you accumulate all of these you can then take them to Annah (a witch in Croatoa), or Granny Beldam (a witch in Nerva Archipelago). If you click on these NPCs with at least one of each type of Salvage, you will turn in those pieces and be granted an extra Costume Slot for your character. This costume slot is in addition to the 4 slots you get over the course of your career.
  • A given character can only receive one additional costume slot - if you end up with more salvage, share it with your friends.
  • Annah and Granny Beldam are going to be permanent parts of the game, so if you should come across the Halloween Salvage after the event is over, you can still turn them in for your Costume Slot.
  • There are many badges made available again, for defeating the Halloween-themed critters. There are also two new Halloween-themed badges for defeating some of the new critters created especially for this event.

The Halloween Event will continue for the next two weeks, and will end at 11.59pm on 1 November. To find out more about the causes of these strange events, check the latest edition of the Paragon Times.
