CoV subscription fees announced

06 Oct, 2005

Pay just one price to play both City of Villains and City of Heroes.

NCsoft Europe is pleased to announce the final subscription fee for combined monthly play in City of Villains and City of Heroes: £8.99 per month, or €12.99.

Yes, that’s right; if you are already a City of Heroes subscriber, all you need to do to play City of Villains is purchase the box on or any time after release day - October 31st 2005. Your existing City of Heroes subscription fee will give you complete access to City of Villains’ diabolical features - as well as letting your hero stay in Paragon City.

If you have not yet played City of Heroes, and want to start your reign of terror over the Rogue Isles with City of Villains… then go right ahead! Simply purchasing City of Heroes in the future will give you access to all the heroic content of City of Heroes.

UPDATE: Our Frequently Asked Questions section has now been updated with more details.

0Posted by Kajaman on 06 Oct at 04:53

Wow - i wasn’t expecting combined fee’s. Maybe its time for me to get back into CoH :D

0Posted by Aubergine Man on 06 Oct at 05:18

WOOHOO ;p

0Posted by Jawbreaker on 06 Oct at 07:20

Luminar: No, you may purchase City of Villains at any time, and get the same subscription price.

This is a not a limited offer in any way.

0Posted by Greymaine on 06 Oct at 08:07

I wonder how it will work for those of us part way through our 6 month sub . . . .

0Posted by Nomolos on 06 Oct at 08:14

Gratzs Nice idea good and good to see

0Posted by Red_Lace on 06 Oct at 08:49

What about if you have pre-ordered CoV with play.com, and are supposidely getting the game on 28th October 2005? Will the fees be the same?

0Posted by gen pansington on 06 Oct at 10:25

THAT is damn good news! This way I can keep both my coh accoutn open and expirience the new end game content there,AND play cov to :D

yay I love u ncsoft :D

0Posted by Stephen on 06 Oct at 11:28

Unlucky for me tho, i bet; I have had the American version of CoH for ages now, so i bet that i will have to pay twice, once for CoH US and secondly for CoV UK :(

0Posted by Elay on 06 Oct at 12:20

That’s excellent news...one question however, - I have US CoH (for the last 18mths) and want EU CoV - is it still possible at the one price?

0Posted by Ebon Hawk on 06 Oct at 12:32

Valid question about those of us partway through a subscription if we buy blocks. Also can we get clarification that the block (3months, 6 months) prices will also be unchanged please?

I’m choosing to assume that a paid subscription for either game will flag you as active for both if you have a registered key for both, and that being partway through my 3 month period will mean I can log in and play on the 29th (I pre-ordered /images/smileys/smile.gif)

0Posted by gen pansington on 06 Oct at 12:44

I have a question though, does this mean if i a coh buy a gamecard i have auto added 2 months gameplay to each game?Or will there be new combined gamecards ?

0Posted by orrimaarrkko on 06 Oct at 13:22

this is great news £8.99 a month for both games.

0Posted by Raffles on 06 Oct at 14:35

Great news but can clarify the situation regarding US and EU versions? I also have a US version of CoH. Will a UK-bought CoV work with it? I ask because one online supplier is describing CoV as ‘region free’.

0Posted by Jawbreaker on 06 Oct at 14:58

Greymaine: Purchasing City of Villains and ‘upgrading’ your existing City of Heroes account will give you an extra month of time.

Red_Lace: Your subscription fee will still be the same. When you upgrade your City of Heroes account with a retail copy of City of Villains is irrelevant. I was just trying to remind everyone of the date in the story above. /images/smileys/smile.gif

0Posted by Jawbreaker on 06 Oct at 15:02

Ebon Hawk: ‘Block’ prices remain unchanged, yes. You should be able to play in the ‘head-start weekend’ on the 29th if you have pre-ordered, and applied your pre-order key to your existing CoH account.

Gen. Pansington: There will be new, combined Game Time Cards available not long after City of Villains’ release - however, adding an existing CoH Game Time Card to your CoH account should give you time in CoV too.

0Posted by Jawbreaker on 06 Oct at 15:07

Regarding CoH US accounts: As NCsoft North America and NCsoft Europe are seperate companies, CoH US accounts will not work ‘in conjunction’ with CoV EU accounts.

This means, if you play CoH on the US servers, you will need to pay a separate subscription fee for playing CoV on EU servers.

We are aiming to make further announcements to help players in this situation later in the year. I’m sorry I can’t be more specific at this time, but the situation is being worked on.

0Posted by The Evil Doctor on 06 Oct at 15:08

My CoH Subscription ended on the 7th of September so when I pay for a 6month plan on CoV does that make my CoH account come active again or will it remain closed?

0Posted by Reaction on 06 Oct at 15:22

now thats what i call a good deal realy good thanx guy.

i can now keep bothe games going.....

/images/smileys/smile.gif

0Posted by Krazy Kupo on 06 Oct at 15:40

Phew, lucky I switched to the EU version of CoH.

0Posted by Kinslayer on 06 Oct at 15:52

That’s great news. I was expecting some sort of extra fee and had put a cap on a £3 raise as my personal limit.

To get all this extra content just for the price of the disk is great

0Posted by groble on 06 Oct at 16:22

okay i have a question. will the fact i have an american copy of CoH and play on the american servers affect my ability to play CoV with the same subscription, if i get a UK version of the game?

0Posted by patrick on 06 Oct at 16:33

WOOT being a poor student i didnt think i would be able to afford both of them but and i say again WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

0Posted by Hobo on 06 Oct at 19:42

Hi,

This is awesome news, but I was wondering: If I buy this and then City of Heroes later, can I still use upgrade to lock them together? Or does City of Heroes have to be bought first?

0Posted by Stalker on 06 Oct at 19:54

well played nc soft thats the best news i have heard in a while

0Posted by Rufus Rhinehart on 06 Oct at 22:14

I was expecting maybe a discount at best for the combined package. You’ve exceeded my expectations, on that score, nice one. Count me in.

0Posted by ViviFFIX on 07 Oct at 05:35

What if you purchase CoV first and then later decide you want to try out the heroes, will you still be able to combine them?

0Posted by Yoshi on 07 Oct at 05:52

Woohooo!

That is all

0Posted by fireball man on 07 Oct at 06:06

about time someone started to think of the players alot of us have multiple accounts so we can play with family etc.  this has made my week thanx guys.

0Posted by Mugsyuk on 07 Oct at 07:43

Gotta say this is excellent news, one of the best online games out there just got better. Outstanding work and many thanks for considering us heroes.

0Posted by Fitzie on 07 Oct at 09:07

Great idea, its probably convinced me to go out and buy CoV!

0Posted by Malkavian on 07 Oct at 09:25

Wow i thought CoV was an X-pack for CoH?

If so, why pay more?

If not, why make 2 games?

I find this strange

0Posted by lolicon on 07 Oct at 09:31

Sicne my coh acc isn’t active I cannot ask this on the forums…

My coh acc is us but I live in the uk (sinc eI didin’t want to wait an ice age to play) but I pre ordered eu version of cov. My geuss is I wont be able to play coh anymore if I play cov (without paying both) anyone confirm this?

0Posted by Jawbreaker on 07 Oct at 10:11

The Evil Doctor: If you have a CoH account of any kind, and you ‘upgrade’ it using your CoV retail box, when you add any amount of time to your subscription it will apply to both games. Effectively, you will be billed once, for both.

Hobo: You can buy either game first. As long as one is used to ‘upgrade’ the other, you’ll be fine.

ViviFFIX: Yes, absolutely.

Lolicon: You’re correct. Please take a look at my comment above regarding US accounts.

0Posted by Nefarious on 07 Oct at 10:23

So, if im correct… I play CoH using timecards, if i buy CoV and instead of adding it to my games i use the “upgrade” option on my CoH account and add the security code of my CoV game, i can just use CoH timecards to upgrade both CoH and CoV?

0Posted by teetod on 07 Oct at 11:33

OMG OMG OMG OMG this seals the deal for me im deff getting CoV 2 for 1 offer u can’t refuse /images/smileys/smile.gif /images/smileys/smile.gif /images/smileys/smile.gif /images/smileys/smile.gif OOO thanks u guys

0Posted by Gorm on 07 Oct at 11:43

I got CoH on direct to drive, so its the American version. Anyway to change to Uk?

0Posted by Son of Nimrod on 07 Oct at 13:54

An extremely shrewd business decision that will benefit us all. I really like your thinking on this one. Well done guys.

0Posted by sean on 07 Oct at 15:52

When the month is up, does money automatically come out of our account or do we need to sign up for an extra month manually?

0Posted by DC on 08 Oct at 00:32

I was just wondering. Will there be a combined box released for CoH and CoV later on or i have to buy them separately? I wana play both sides and all content. /images/smileys/smile.gif

0Posted by DC on 08 Oct at 00:36

Well maybe NC soft could help out ppl to switch from US CoH to UK CoH. So this way they could play al features wiht their UK CoV. Its only a matter of activasion code right? I mean the software on the discs is the same right?

0Posted by gen. pansington on 08 Oct at 07:22

I see there’s a game activation card in the standerd/collectors box does this mean we dont need anything else to activate the free month?Cause with coh I had to buy an additional gamecard to activate the free month(and thus starting with 3 months of gameplay).

0Posted by Raymond Luxury Yacht on 08 Oct at 11:15

Now this is a deal!

Can’t wait for CoV. Once I get my villian to the right level I’m headed straight for Paragon! Like a ‘behind enemy lines’ sort of genre.

Superb!

0Posted by Shaitan on 08 Oct at 15:24

0Posted by Sylp on 08 Oct at 15:55
