Please be aware that when purchasing a City of Villains game serial code online, your characters will not benefit from the special costume options available in the Collector's Edition of the game. Click here for more details on the Collector's Edition.

To buy a serial code online, follow these instructions (if you are a player of City of Heroes, please note the special instructions at the bottom of this page):

1. Create a Master Account at PlayNC.com, or login to an existing account

Click here to visit PlayNC.com and create a Master Account. You will need a Master Account if you have not played any NCsoft games before, including the City of Heroes European Beta.

Click here to login to your Master Account on PlayNC.com. You will have a Master Account if you participated in the City of Heroes European Beta, or if you have played an NCsoft game before such as Lineage II or City of Heroes.

If you have forgotten your PlayNC Master Account details, you can create another Master Account.

2. In your Manage Account page, under ‘Online Purchased Serial Codes’, click ‘Purchase Code’

Once you are logged in, click the ‘Purchase Code’ link.

3. Choose ‘City of Villains (Europe)’ and click ‘Submit’

Your next screen should look something like this (the example here is for City of Heroes, but City of Villains (Europe) will also be in the list):

To play on the City of Villains localised European servers, select City of Villains (Europe) and click Submit.

4. Choose your method of payment, and click Submit

Your choice of payment methods will vary according to your country of residence, as defined in your PlayNC Master Account details. For more details on which payment methods we’re accepting, read this FAQ.

5. Submit your payment details, and click Submit (just once!)

If your method of payment is successful, you will get a message confirming your purchase. You then need to return to your Manage Account page.

6. If you are a new player of City of Villains, download the client from the Download link

Under the ‘Online Purchased Serial Codes’ section you should see an entry for City of Villains (Europe) with a download link. Click that link to download the City of Villains European client.

7. On the Manage Account page, note the serial code and click ‘Add Games’

If this is a new Master Account, you will now need to add your serial code to your account to create a new City of Villains Game Account.

Click ‘Add Games’ and enter the serial code you were given on the previous page. You can do this while your client is downloading.

8. Pick a Game Account name and password

These are used to login to City of Villains; they can be the same as your PlayNC Master Account (for convenience) or different (for security).

9. Install the City of Villains client, login and play!

Special instructions for City of Heroes players

If you are already a player of City of Heroes, you should not use the ‘Add Game’ link. Instead, you should use your City of Villains serial code to ‘Upgrade’ your existing City of Heroes account with City of Villains by clicking on the ‘Upgrade’ button on your City of Heroes account.

You will not need to download the City of Villains client to play. Just login to City of Heroes and you will be able to create and play Villains as well as Heroes.
